Never Has an Industry needed a champion more than it needs one now,and that champion has arrived in the form of Cask Ale or Traditional Ale.Had the major brewers had their way during the early 1970's,we, the drinker would have been saddled with "Trophy Bitter","Red Barrel" and "Double Diamond",and whilst its fair to say, many working in the "Trade" viewed the advent and growth of "Keg" as something to be welcomed, these products required little or no skill to maintain, had long shelf life and presented well in the glass.........Achhh they were tasteless and bland. Then along came the breakthrough....founded,strangely in the most Westerly pub in Europe - Kruger's Bar in Dunquin, Co Kerry, when four young men from the north west of England, Michael Hardman, Graham Lees, Bill Mellor and Jim Makin were on holiday. Each of them fed up with the increasing poor quality of beer in Britain, predominently "Keg" that was too fizzy, had no character and no taste ! They decided to form a Campaign for the Revitalisation of Ale,Such was the successof these and other early campaigners that CAMRA came in to being, and, has grown to be one of the most influential, and Iconic consumer champions in the world.
Now any pub or Hotel serving cask ale is tapping into a lucrative groundswell of discerning consumers who demand choice and quality from preferably locally sourced producers and all as a result Of CAMRA of whom I as the proprietor of this business am proud to be a Member.
